本の朗読を聞く、というよりは、居酒屋で隣の席に座ってロブの思い出話を聞いているような気分になれました。著名人とのエピソードの数々を、実に生き生きと感情を込めて語るロブ。クエンティン・クリスプと遭遇した時、憧れのシーラ・ブラックに思い切って話しかけた時、女王陛下に謁見してヘヴィメタルの話をした時など、本当に嬉しそうで、良かったねえロブ!と、思わず合いの手を入れたくなるほどです。
ブラック・サバスと2度の共演、空港でレミーと一緒にセルフィーを撮った思い出、テレビ出演していたダイムバッグ・ダレルに会いたくて、テレビ局へ押し掛けちゃう話なども印象的でした。
プライベートな事に関しては、そこまで言うか!?ってほどの濃い内容ですが、書籍版で読んだときに衝撃的だった部分も、著者本人が淡々と読み上げているので、そのぐらいのテンションで語れることなのか、と、そのギャップに戸惑いを感じたり。
それにしてもロブは、人生の重大な局面において、ほぼ全て、思いつきやひらめきに従って行動してるんですね。さすがアーティストです。イギリス中西部出身の少年の冒険譚としても大変面白いストーリー。お勧めのAudible版です。
