あらすじ・解説

Brought to you by Penguin.

31 June, 1943. An RAF crew prepare for their next bombing raid on Germany. It is a night that many will never forget. Len Deighton's devastating novel is a gripping minute-by-minute account of what happens over the next 24 hours. Told through the eyes of ordinary people in the air and on the ground - from a young pilot to the inhabitants of a small town in the Ruhr - Bomber is an unforgettable portrayal of individuals caught up in the wreckage of war.

World War Two from both angles

Well written and powerful. Doesn't seem to pull it's punches and is graphic in the areas it needs to be. The sufferings of people on both sides is explored to such an extent that I felt sorry for the loss of German night fighter and it's crew even though they had just scored hits on a British bomber. Excellent narration, not at all bombastic and flag waving. A book took make you think.

Really good

I read Bomber years ago and it's even better than I remembered. The audio edition is well read and unabridged. Bomber's worst chapter is the first - stick with it and it soon becomes compelling.

Classic book that delivers.

Weighty narration of this brilliant book that I've read many times and listened to in the brilliant BBC dramatised version.
Having grown up around former bomber crews who came to our house to celebrate not being dead I know there is a story to tell. My father , a decorated Lancaster pilot, was always upset when he thought about all the death associated with his missions, his crew and the non combatants. This book, deliberately delivered with great weight by the narrator, paints every view of the air war and pulls me back to those empty airfields the visits to which with my dad lead me to an aircrew brevet. Listen to this if you have ever heard the roar of a merlin and you will understand it!
