Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 22, read in full from the World English Bible (WEB).
Matthew 22 begins with a wedding feast for the king's son, where the invited guests make light of the call and the doors are thrown open to everyone, yet one man comes without wedding clothing. The invitation is free, but it must be received on the king's terms. Then the Pharisees, the Herodians and the Sadducees each try to trap Jesus, and each time His answer leaves them silent: give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's, and God is the God of the living, not of the dead. When a lawyer asks which commandment is greatest, Jesus says to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and to love your neighbour as yourself. He ends by asking the question that matters most, what do you think of the Christ, and whose son is He? David calls Him Lord, because He is both David's son and David's Lord.
