Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens features TWO fascinating defensive trends that could shape Sunday's matchup between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Baltimore has allowed an NFL-high 78% of opposing pass targets to wide receivers, while Buffalo's defense faces a different challenge against running backs and tight ends.
Can Josh Allen exploit Baltimore's defensive tendencies? And can Jim Leonhard stop Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the Ravens offense?
On Bills HIT, we examine the numbers behind this critical AFC showdown.
JOSH ALLEN'S BIG OPPORTUNITY AGAINST BALTIMORE
According to FantasyPros data cited in the episode, 78% of passes targeting Baltimore's defense through seven weeks have gone toward wide receivers, the highest percentage in the NFL.
Only 13% of opposing targets have gone to running backs and 9% to tight ends.
That doesn't automatically mean Baltimore has the NFL's worst cornerbacks, but it highlights where opposing offenses have directed their passing attacks.
With Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir and potentially DJ Moore available, Buffalo has multiple receiving weapons capable of challenging Baltimore.
Moore remains questionable with a shoulder injury, but his potential return could provide Josh Allen with another dangerous option.
Could Coleman, Shakir and Moore have huge performances against the Ravens?
BUFFALO'S DEFENSE FACES A DIFFERENT CHALLENGE
The Bills have seen 17% of opposing pass targets go toward running backs and 14% toward tight ends.
Those numbers are higher than Baltimore's corresponding percentages.
That creates an intriguing matchup against Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.
Buffalo must respect Henry's downhill running ability while accounting for Jackson's mobility and passing threats.
Mark Andrews remains a dangerous tight end despite his recent drop-rate concerns, and Zay Flowers can create problems with his separation and movement across the formation.
Jim Leonhard's defense must communicate effectively, maintain assignments and prevent Baltimore from exploiting mismatches.
Can Buffalo make the necessary adjustments coming out of its bye week?
And which quarterback will do a better job exploiting the opposing defense?
