Met in the Making: Finding God in the Creative Process | Met in the Mess Podcast

What if creativity is about more than the things we make? What if it’s also about the ways God meets us in the process?

In this wrap-up episode of Met in the Making, our creativity series, we’re reflecting on the beautiful ways creativity can draw us closer to God, help us practice presence, and remind us that there is purpose in the process—not just the finished product.

Throughout this series, we’ve explored how everyday creative practices can become opportunities for spiritual growth, connection, and worship. From journaling as prayer and crocheting with intention to cooking with hospitality, baking through seasons of waiting, and crafting alongside our kids, we’ve discovered that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect, polished, or Pinterest-worthy to be meaningful.

Sometimes, God meets us in the quiet rhythm of a crochet hook. Sometimes, He teaches us patience while dough rises or a meal comes together. Sometimes, we experience His wonder through the eyes of our children as we create side by side. And sometimes, we find Him in the process of mending what is broken, making room for beauty, and learning to pay attention to the ordinary moments of our lives.

In this final episode, we’re looking back at what we’ve learned, sharing the creative practices that have stayed with us, and reflecting on how we can continue to make space for creativity in our everyday lives. Even in the middle of motherhood, busy schedules, and the beautiful mess of being human.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • What we’ve learned throughout the Met in the Making creativity series
  • How creativity can become a spiritual practice and a way to connect with God
  • Finding God in ordinary, everyday activities rather than waiting for perfect conditions
  • The spiritual lessons of journaling, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, quilting, and crafting with kids
  • Practicing presence, patience, hospitality, wonder, and intentional attention
  • Letting go of perfectionism and embracing the beauty of the creative process
  • Making room for creativity in busy seasons of motherhood
  • Simple ways to incorporate creativity into your rhythms of faith and family life

Scripture to reflect on:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” — Colossians 3:23 (ESV)

Our creativity doesn’t have to look impressive to be offered to God. Whether we’re writing in a journal, preparing a meal, mending something by hand, or making a mess with our children, we can approach the ordinary work of our lives with intention and gratitude.

A reflection question for you:

What creative practice has helped you slow down, notice God’s presence, or connect more deeply with the people around you? How might you make a little more room for creativity in your everyday life?

Thank you for joining us for Met in the Making! We hope this series has encouraged you to see creativity not as another thing to accomplish, but as an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and meet God right where you are.

Because even in the making, we can meet God in the mess.
