Kansas State football defeats Kansas 35-24 in the Sunflower Showdown, extending the Wildcats' rivalry winning streak to 18 consecutive games! Avery Johnson and Joe Jackson deliver massive performances as Collin Klein earns his first Big 12 victory. But was this more than another victory over the Jayhawks? After consecutive conference losses to Cincinnati and Houston, Kansas State finally looked like the physical, run-first football team Collin Klein envisioned when he took over the program. The Wildcats rushed for 354 yards, generated 568 yards of total offense and controlled possession for 36 minutes. Joe Jackson led the way with 159 rushing yards on 27 carries, while Avery Johnson added 132 rushing yards and delivered 209 passing yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Kansas State ran the football on 30 of its 35 second-half offensive plays, physically wearing down the Kansas defense and taking control of the rivalry matchup. But despite the victory, significant concerns remain. We break down Kansas State's red-zone struggles, questionable short-yardage play calls, costly receiver drops and special teams mistakes that prevented the Wildcats from winning by an even larger margin. We also discuss the impressive performance of kicker Luis Rodriguez and the continued emergence of Rodney Fields as another explosive option in Kansas State's rushing attack. With Kansas State improving to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play, attention now turns toward the Wildcats' upcoming road games against Arizona State and Colorado. Can Collin Klein build on this performance, establish a consistent offensive identity and guide Kansas State toward an eight-win season?
