When reading through Jesus' teachings in the Sermon on the Mount, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by our own inability to live up to God's standard. We might be tempted to fixate on our failures and fall into despair, much like a prisoner staring at a locked door while the key sits right beside them. In this message by Pastor Maiola Vivas on Matthew 7:7–14, we are reminded that our response to our shortcomings should never be self-pity or despair but rather prayer directed toward a loving heavenly Father.

Jesus invites us to continually ask, seek, and knock, assuring us that our Father delights to give good gifts to His children. Because God is a faithful Father who knows how to care for us, we can pray with bold confidence knowing that He hears us. This deep security in God's love empowers us to approach him boldly in prayer and to actively pursue the good of others rather than just avoiding wrongdoing.

Ultimately, Jesus contrasts the broad, easy road that leads to destruction with the narrow gate that leads to life. True life is found not through religious rule-following or worldly compromise, but through a trusting and abiding relationship with Jesus as the only way to the Father. Discover how shifting your eyes off yourself to the Father's goodness can transform your prayer life and guide you along the narrow path that leads to true life!
