What if sobriety wasn't about everything you had to give up, but everything you could finally experience? This week on the Finding Purpose Podcast, Adam sits down with Cammy McFadden, recovery advocate, coach, and co-founder of Kindred Spirits Collective, to explore how to build a joyful, connected life without alcohol or drugs. With 35 years of continuous sobriety, Cammy knows recovery is about more than abstinence. She reflects on growing up in Greenwich, Connecticut, early drinking, anxiety, people-pleasing, and the desire to belong. She shares how recovery helped her develop self-awareness, supportive friendships, and a stronger sense of identity. Adam and Cammy discuss Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), 12-step fellowship, the importance of community in addiction recovery, navigating divorce while sober, and rebuilding life after major transitions. They also explore loneliness, healthy boundaries, self-care, and the courage to try new experiences. Cammy co-founded Kindred Spirits Collective with Jim Torney around a powerful message: "You don't need a buzz to have fun." The nonprofit brings sober and sober-curious people together through concerts, dinners, sporting events, outdoor adventures, and other alcohol-free experiences. Drawing on their work as recovery coaches, Adam and Cammy also discuss sober companioning, family recovery, building trust without judgment, and meeting each person where they are. Their conversation is a reminder that sobriety can open the door to friendship, service, purpose, and a life you genuinely enjoy.
