In this episode, Kanmani R, a lawyer practising in the Madras High Court on the recent amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act. Kanmani argues that ironically, this Act does not protect the rights of any of the communities it purports to. The amendments come from a perceived threat to the "ideal Hindu family", and mirror similar Western socio-religious concerns.
She also speaks from lived experience, and from her interactions with a wide section of the transgender community, of what a fair law for transpersons really entails.
Of course, the interview touches on the topic on everyone's social media feed - what about the toilets?
