The episode detail the brutal murder of Kim Dorsey in Jacksonville, Florida, and the subsequent police investigation to find her killer. Initially suspecting her husband Derek Dorsey due to their involvement in an alternative relationship, detectives eventually cleared him through a solid alibi. Investigators then scrutinized various acquaintances, including a local sound technician and an infatuated former resident named Joshua V, before turning their attention toward Lance Kirkpatrick. A stolen vehicle report, security footage, and a detailed confession provided by Kirkpatrick's associate Brian Kefir ultimately placed Kirkpatrick at the scene. Familial DNA matching and physical evidence disproved Kirkpatrick's claims of self-defense, leading a jury to find him guilty of first-degree murder and sentence him to life without parole.
