In January 2016, Mirna met Jessica and another friend at Olivier Café inside Jakarta’s Grand Indonesia mall. She took a sip of Vietnamese iced coffee, said it tasted terrible, and was dead less than an hour later. Police said the coffee contained cyanide and accused Jessica of poisoning her—but almost immediately, questions emerged. There was no full autopsy, the chain of custody was messy, and CCTV never captured Jessica actually putting anything into Mirna’s drink. Jessica was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison, but the case—later examined in the Netflix documentary Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso—remains deeply controversial.
