What if your thyroid isn’t the only thing you should be looking at when you’re dealing with thyroid symptoms?
In this episode of Everything’s Messy Podcast, I’m connecting some dots between the thyroid, liver, gallbladder, and female hormones—because our bodies don’t work one organ at a time.
We talk so much about thyroid labs: TSH, T4, T3, and whether those numbers fall into the “normal” range. But a lab result is one piece of information. How you feel, your symptoms, medications, nutrition, hormonal changes, and what’s happening elsewhere in the body can all be part of the bigger picture.
I break down, in simple terms, why the liver matters for thyroid hormone metabolism, how the gallbladder and bile fit into digestion, and why changing estrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause can add another layer to the conversation.
And of course, I bring in my own experience with thyroid disease and navigating healthcare. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you have to be willing to ask questions. If something doesn’t feel right, “your labs are normal” doesn’t have to be the end of the conversation.
We’re talking about:
• The thyroid–liver connection
• Why thyroid hormone conversion matters
• What your gallbladder actually does
• Estrogen, perimenopause, and menopause
• Why symptoms and labs need context
• Asking better questions at your appointments
• Looking at health as a whole instead of chasing one symptom at a time
This isn’t about diagnosing yourself or assuming every symptom has one hidden root cause. It’s about understanding your body well enough to have better conversations about your health.
Because healing—and figuring out what the heck your body is doing—is messy.
Keep it Messy. 🦋
