Everything Kathleen owned was gone. Her home was sold, her son was living with his father, and she was sleeping in a truck.
Then a stranger gave her a ride to an AA meeting and talked about Jesus the whole way. She fell asleep in her chair and slept through the entire thing. That night ended in an arrest, and she calls it "the beginning of the ending."
It was hard to believe she's the same girl who was once the happiest kid in a church-going family, until her parents' divorce at eleven sent her looking for belonging in all the wrong places. By fourteen she was drinking. Years later she had a fantastic job making great money, a new home, and a new car. On paper, she had it all. But she wasn't walking with the Lord; she was too busy, and it wasn't long before it all came crashing down.
Through it all, two things never let go of her: a mom who kept showing up with prayers, and a worn-out Bible that turned up by the trash cans after everything else was taken, her grandmother's phone number still written inside.
Today, Kathleen sponsors women, serves her community, and sings her testimony on the Discovery stage. Her advice to anyone who feels too far gone: "If nothing changes, nothing changes."
