あらすじ・解説

This is the second story in the Anne of Green Gables series. Skinny little red-haired Anne has changed into a pretty 16-year-old and is all grown up - well, sort of grown up. The story opens with Anne as a school teacher at Avonlea school. When Anne reached the school that first morning, she was confronted by prim rows of "shining morning faces". She had sat up until nearly midnight composing a speech which she had revised and improved painstakingly. It was a wonderful speech with fine ideas. And then, she couldn't remember it!

Good story and perfect narrator

Do you have any additional comments?

I was surprised no one rated or commented on this audio. The narrator became one of my favorite ever since I listened to it.

Anne of Green Gables part 2

The second book in the Green Gables series isn't quite as delightful as the first, but it's still a sweet story and the characters are all interesting and likable. This narrator has a nice voice, but I could hear pages turning throughout. Very distracting.

Lovers this book!

I usually lean towards heavier and often historical subject matter for my reading pleasure. However, with the world in such a dark place, it is so nice to be swept away into a joyous, simple world , were things work out well.

Enjoyable Experience

Now, I know you must be thinking... The narration is a little dull in the previews or overall dull. But she really isn't that bad! Her rendition of other characters really breathes life into her style.

I could lose myself and picture things very clearly. Sometimes I would lose interest however she would pull me right back in!!

The story itself is a continuation of "Anne of Avonlea" with Anne being a young adult going through her trials. I'm absolutely entranced.

The Narrator IS Anne!

I read many reviews before purchasing this book, because I wanted to find the best narrator of the bunch. And let me tell you Laurie Klein is it! Many people complained about hearing page turns, but I swear I only heard 1, and it was barley there? I'm definitely buying Anne of the Island next with Laurie Klein, and I'm going to take a look at her other readings. Fantastic experience! Her voice captures Anne to a T.

It’s just ok

I loved Anne of Green Gables narrated by Rachel McAdams but this story and narration left me feeling blah. I didn’t care for the story line and didn’t really like any of the characters, even Anne. It could have been the way the narrator portrayed them or it could just be that the sequel wasn’t very good. But either way, I was disappointed.

Good story but not good reader

First I love this story however the reader was not the best. Also it was quite annoying that I could hear her turning the pages as she read. It was actually very distracting.

Pleasant Diversion - Escape to Avonlea with Anne

Fans of Green Gables will enjoy the continuing story. Not as well edited as the first book but a pleasant diversion from modernity and stress. This book demands nothing of the reader and provides a pastoral pace and occasional lyrical turns one expects from Anne and LMM. listened to several narrators before choosing this version. Ms Klein is no Rachel McAdams but she has a pleasant voice and while some minor characters are a bit whiny or cartoonish - Anne and Marilla are fine. The occasional audible page turn did not bother me it reminded me of being read to as a child. Now to begin my quest for a tolerable narrator for book three. PS-If you are on to book two and haven’t watched the Netflix series “Anne with an E” it is time to treat yourself.

Perfectly narrated

Laurie Klein continues to be the perfect voice of Anne. This is a wonderful book made even better by an excellent performance.

Acceptable

This narrator is average to poor. She ignores punctuation and her style is stilted in places which detracts from the story.

Anne of Avonlea. Teacher.

Almost a week ago I read Anne of Avonlea from the series Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It is a fascinating story about an orphan that has finally found a home (in the previous book) and now she is 17 years old and teaches in Avonlea School.

She has to help Maryla (the woman that Anne lives with) with the twins that her sister in law left her after she died. Not only she has adventures at school but at home and every were she is. Anne created a club to improve Avonlea and I tell you it will be a disaster but in the end everything turns out fine.

However with all her problems Anne always finds a way to turn that frown up side down. With her imagination you would not help being her friend. It feels like you are there watching Anne arguing with Mr. Harrison (neighbour).

Sometimes I just can’t help myself laughing, even when I’m listening to it on my phone in the streets. The narrator tells it so well that you don’t mind that it’s a man/woman that says it all, you know that that’s Anne and that’s Maryla.

It is much faster than reading the book, and much easier to concentrate on the well written descriptions – like it is happening all around you. Now when I walk to school I am not as bored and like to have walks like that. Audible is great to listen to.

As good as the original Anne of Green Gables

I chose this reading out of all those available because Laurie Klein seemed the only reader who understands that LM Montgomery must be read with irony. Anne is extremely funny, and can't be taken too seriously. This is a very old recording -- you can hear the narrator turning pages in the background -- but I found it atmospheric and engaging. I would highly recommend this audiobook as a follow-up to Rachel McAdams' excellent reading of the original Anne of Green Gables. Anne of Avonlea doesn't disappoint!
