あらすじ・解説

The only thing more inconvenient than Camilla's marriage at gunpoint is falling in love with her unwilling groom....

Adrian Hunter, the son of a duke's daughter and a black abolitionist, is determined to do whatever his family needs - even posing as a valet to gather information. But his mission spirals out of control when he's accused of dastardly intentions and is forced to marry a woman he's barely had time to flirt with.

Camilla Worth has always dreamed of getting married, but a marriage where a pistol substitutes for "I do" is not the relationship she hoped for. Her unwilling groom insists they need to seek an annulment, and she's not cruel enough to ruin a man's life just because she yearns for one person to care about her.

As Camilla and Adrian work to prove their marriage wasn't consensual, they become first allies, then friends. But the closer they grow, the more Camilla's heart aches. If they consummate the marriage, he'll be stuck with her forever. The only way to show that she cares is to make sure he can walk away for good....

Not even Rosalyn Landor can save this

Full disclosure: I didn't finish this book, which is very rare. You might call the two main characters optimists, because they're always justifying the bad treatment of others, and hoping for better. I call them spineless fantasists, and having two of them just doesn't work. I was listening in my car and kept having to turn off the audio because I couldn't listen to one more justification. Then I'd go back, listen a bit more, hoping it would improve, and turn it off. I won't go any further with it.

Great story undermined with sappy inner diolgue.

Too bad such a great premise is dragged into the mud by the endless sappy "woe is me" then "I AM lovable" drivel. If I just cut out the inner diologue of these two characters I would have loved this book.

By the end I was hoping for the worst for this sappy pair because they were too damn insipid.

Another delightful listen

How glad I am to have found Courtney Milan. Her creatiity in telling stories is amazing. Her characters have depth and charisma. Rosalyn Landor is masterful at bringing Milan's story and characters to life.

Nope

This book is so confusing and dry. Sooo boring could not get passed the 2nd or 3rd chapter. Wasted my coins. I would rather watch paint dry. Worst book by Milan period

Don’t waste a credit on this book.

Very disappointing even Rosalyn Landor couldn’t save it. Heroine hated herself so much it was annoying. Repetitive and awful.
