あらすじ・解説

In Lisa Gardner's second short story, after the New York Times bestseller The 7th Month, Detective D.D. Warren takes on her most intimidating assignment yet: a fifty-minute class meant to educate a horde of bloodthirsty thriller writers on the ways of actual police work. Yet sometimes life really does imitate fiction, as D.D. takes the writers through the reality of one of her most twisted cases - a case that involves a seedy motel room, drugs, prostitution...and a severed leg.

With Gardner's trademark suspense, sharp observations, and thrilling storytelling, 3 Truths and a Lie is a fascinating chapter in D.D.'s storied career.

Great story. Best to avoid sample chapter at end

The short story was very enjoyable... it only I'd stopped there. The story is followed by a couple of sample chapters from Gardner's next release. The first chapter is something I wish I could un-hear. The description of the experience was way too graphic for me.

Flawless

If you could sum up 3 Truths and a Lie in three words, what would they be?

What a fun romp, if you can call a gruesome little detective story a romp. It's the perfect blend of narrator with the story to create a truly fun listen. Plus, it's super short, so it's good to listen in between longer books.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 3 Truths and a Lie?

I love the set up of the detective presenting her most memorable case to a group of writers. It made the listener feel like they were in the room. So much fun.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It's a story.

Fun short story

This was a really fun story, perfect for a quick break between genres or when you can't decide 'what next' in your library. I enjoyed DD Warren in a teaching role - wish my work PD seminar was as fascinating!

If you are a fan, this is a can't miss story!

Ugh!!!!! Change the narrator... PLEASE!!!!

I listened to approximately 30 minutes of this and was so annoyed with the narrator's interpretation that I had to quit. It was awful. I think I might try actually reading this one. I feel like the content is there, but Ms. Kirsten's portrayal is grossly off and does it no justice. My apology to the author.

Boston Detective D. D. Warren lectures...

...crime novel authors at a conference. This one hour short story is about one of Warren's cases. She engages her audience to get their input on what she should have done next at each point in the case. Kirsten Potter does her normal great job of narration. The short story is free at Audible. The short story is followed by the first two chapters of Find Her, the D. D. Warren thriller to be released on Feb. 9, 2016.

Witty and Clever

Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren is asked to do a presentation to a group of thriller writers about police procedure. When she turns and faces the room, D. D. abandons her plan and decides to tell a story about a recent, bizarre case and ask the group to figure out the three truths and a lie.

I’m not a fan of novellas but this one was pretty clever. It’s too short for me to provide more details without spoiling it for other readers but what I can share is I was just as engaged as the group in that conference room and enjoyed how she singled out some of my favorite, real life authors. I attempted to guess the answers, too, and the narrator brought a level of wit that made this fun.

Unbearable narrator

Enjoy Gardner and this series. The narrator was dreadful had to abandon after 10 mins. Shrill. Awful.
