Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic in which Verne prophesized many modern uses of the submarine. "Around the World in Eighty Days" (French: "Le tour du monde en quatre vingts jours") is a classic adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in 1873. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a 320,000 pounds wager (equal to 31,324,289 pounds today) set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne's most acclaimed works.

The story begins in Hamburg, 1863. The brilliant Professor Lidenbrock, inspired by an ancient, encoded manuscript, impetuously decides to take his reluctant nephew Axel on a seemingly insane mission: to travel down volcanic tunnels to the very center of the earth.

Touted as " the only unabridged library edition published," this 1877 classic presents an intriguing quest set deep in the dark coal mines of Scotland. A subterranean city struggles with fossil fuel depletion, tormenting highland spirits, threatening explosive gases, and a lurking, hidden evil presence. The old miner Simon Ford, his wife Madge and son Harry, along with the engineer James Starr, venture into the mysterious labyrinths and discover something much more than coal.

After translating an ancient runic manuscript, he claims to have discovered a route that would allow a man to reach the center of the Earth, by descending into a volcano. Accompanied by his nephew, Axel, and a guide named Hans, they travel down the Icelandic volcano where they encounter many dangers, including prehistoric animals. Their journey is ultimately cut short when the three are put in a dangerous situation that may result not only in the end of the adventure, but also the end of their lives!

During the year 1866, ships of several nations spot a mysterious sea monster, which some suggest to be a giant narwhal. The United States government assembles an expedition in New York City to find and destroy the monster. Professor Pierre Aronnax, a French marine biologist and narrator of the story, who happens to be in New York at the time, receives a last-minute invitation to join the expedition which he accepts. Canadian whaler and master harpoonist Ned Land and Aronnax's faithful servant Conseil are also brought aboard.

This is a classic adventure tale set far down in the briny deep. Captain Nemo hunts the terrifying and mysterious monster that has already wrecked ships which disturbed its slumber. A scary, illuminating, and exciting listen for all ages, this story has achieved almost mythical status, and Jules Verne's great writing style makes the truly unbelievable seem entirely feasible: and utterly absorbing.

We are at first introduced to Phileas Fogg, who lives in London and has just fired his valet for silly reasons. Fogg then hires Jean Passepartout who, at the time of hire, has no idea of the adventure that his new boss will take him on. Fogg learns that it is now possible to travel around the world - starting and ending up in London - in only 80 days.

Mysterious entities take possession of a long deserted castle creating fear among the residents of the adjacent village of Werst, in Transylvania. The village sends two men to the castle to investigate, but they are repulsed by what the men feel are "supernatural" means. The heroes of the story, Count Franz de Telek and his man Rotzko learn of the mystery while passing through the village and become determined to solve it.
