Too often we mistake religion for an insurance policy by which we are somehow guaranteed success, health and a productive life. Three parables in particular reveal that a healthy and holy spirituality is founded on the compassionate mercy of God: The accounts of the (1) Prodigal Son, (2) the Samaritan Woman, and the (3) Good Samaritan serve to remind us that God comes to those who are worn out, broken and who feel inadequate to the tasks of life. These three parables remind us that God loves us completely, even in our deepest need.

Jesuit Father William Sneck is an expert on the human struggle with shame, guilt, and anger. 1. Shame is feeling worthless, rejected and unloved. 2. Guilt believes that one has done something irreversibly bad. 3. Anger, as a result of these struggles, can generally be one of the most destructive emotions of the human spirit. Fr. Denial is basically a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with facts that are too uncomfortable to accept and ultimately rejects them, insisting that they are not true, despite what may be overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The concept of denying of denial involves thoughts, actions and behaviors, which bolster confidence that nothing needs to be changed in one's personal behavior.
