Cornelia Arnolda Johanna "Corrie" ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who worked with her father Casper and other family members to help, reportedly, 800 Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in their home. Eventually, the family was caught, and ten Boom was arrested and sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp, but released after 10 months due to a clerical error. Known as the "Prince of Preachers", Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was an English Baptist preacher and pastor of the congregation of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London for 38 years. Spurgeon authored an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns, and sermons.

After he left, around the age of 40, he returned to his former desert and governed a monastic community there for the rest of his life. St. Macarius is venerated in all Christian denominations, and his spiritual homilies have always been held in high regard throughout the ages.

After earning his degree, he led a very successful law practice until at the age of 27 he gave it up to become a priest. He was ordained at the age of 30, and then became a minister to the poor, founding a number of "evening chapels".

In the tumultuous days of the Reformation, the centerpiece of Luther’s ministry was his bold biblical preaching. Charles Finney (1792-1875) was a Presbyterian preacher known for his revival services and extemporaneous preaching. He also dealt with social issues and was an abolitionist. In 1835, Finney was appointed as a professor of theology at Oberlin College; he became its president in 1851. Sermons on Gospel Themes is a collection of his sermons, including 24 delivered at Oberlin College between 1844 and 1861. They were taken down in shorthand while Finney preached them, and submitted to him for correction or addition.
