The gospel of Jesus has not always been good news for Native Americans. The history of North America is marred by atrocities committed against Native peoples. However, despite the far-reaching effects of colonialism, some Natives have forged culturally authentic ways to follow the way of Jesus. De retour chez lui 10 ans plus tard, Riel, par son charisme et son éducation, s’impose rapidement comme leader et s’engage dans la défense des Métis. Il réussira, non sans mal, à faire valoir plusieurs de leurs droits et contribuera à la création de la province du Manitoba, mais sera finalement jugé pour haute trahison et exécuté en 1885.
