Kdesi pod horami u hranic Českého království se nachází Klášter s rozsáhlým panstvím původně čítajícím desítky vesnic, dnes Bohem i generální kapitulou v Selbru opuštěným a chátrajícím. Spravují ho líní řeholníci a obývají hříšní poddaní. Každý má rád své pohodlí. Čas tu plyne klidně, když do skriptoria Kláštera dorazí královská listina, která náhle po osmdesáti letech od žádosti schvaluje povýšení jedné z vesnic na město.
