Sokrates, etwa im Jahre 469 vor Christus geboren, wurde um Jahre 399 der Prozess gemacht. Ihm wurde wegen "Asebie", also Unfrömmigkeit, der Prozess gemacht und er wurde für schuldig erklärt. Unmittelbar an den Schuldspruch schloss sich eine zweite Verhandlung über das Strafmaß an. Die Ankläger hatten die Todesstrafe gefordert. Dem Angeklagten stand nach dem Gesetz das Recht zu, eine andere Strafe zu fordern, gleichzeitig aber seine Schuld anzuerkennen.

Socrate est un philosophe de la Grèce antique (-470 à -399), considéré comme l'un des inventeurs de la philosophie morale et politique. Gaius Musonius Rufus was a Roman Stoic philosopher of the first century AD. He has been referred to as the Roman Socrates and is also remembered for being the teacher of Epictetus. He taught philosophy in Rome during the reign of Nero and so was sent into exile in 65 AD, returning to Rome only under Galba. Twenty-one of his lectures survive together with a few fragmentary notes from others, all of which are contained in this narration.
