A lungo l'umanità si è considerata perfetta, attribuendo le proprie eventuali défaillances all'alienazione portata dalla tecnica o all'azione di entità arcane e malvage come il Capitale e l'Europa. Ma sarebbe bastato un esame di coscienza per capire che il problema era un altro: l'imbecillità, dentro e fuori di noi. L'imbecillità è una cosa seria, a cui sinora non si è dato che uno sguardo distratto, come fosse una cosa per pochi e, soprattutto, per altri. Non è così, e, appena ce ne accorgiamo, i conti tornano, nell'economia, nella società e nella storia.

Dike, la Giustizia, figlia degli Dei, sarà forse costretta, alla fine del suo destino, a coincidere con Nomos, il diritto posto dalla volontà umana uscita da una guerra vittoriosa? La Giustizia apparirebbe allora come un fatto, indisgiungibile dal fatto del potere e delle sue leggi. Oppure Dike, la Giustizia, fa segno, indica qualcosa che trascende i fatti, e che tuttavia deve coi fatti del potere e delle leggi implicarsi? Ecco l'interrogazione eterna della nostra civiltà.
