The Srimad Bhagavatam was written by Ved Vyasa, also known as Krishna Dwaipayana Vyasa. He is considered the compiler of the Vedas, the Upanishads, and the Mahabharata, and is also the author of the Brahma Sutra. While Vyasa is credited with writing the text, it's also believed to have been narrated by Shukadeva Goswami to King Parikshit, and further compiled by Vyasa. The Srimad Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad Gita are both significant texts in Hinduism, but they differ in their focus and scope. The Bhagavad Gita is a philosophical dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna within the Mahabharata.

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was a visionary spiritual teacher and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Born as Abhay Charan De on September 1, 1896, in Calcutta, India, he dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Krishna consciousness worldwide. In 1922, he met Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, who urged him to share Vedic knowledge in English. This encounter shaped his mission, leading him to take sannyasa (renounced order) in 1959 and begin translating and commenting on sacred texts like the Bhagavad Gita and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

Noted internationally known self-help advocate and teacher of devotional yoga Prana Govinda Das was born in Liverpool, England, in 1968, admittedly a pretty good year for all things bright and beautiful. The original "Yoga Secrets of Patanjali" are in themselves exceedingly brief, less than 10 pages in the original ancient texts. As per the Mahabharata, Vyasa is the son of rishi Parashara and a fisherwoman named Kali (Satyavati), who later marries king Shantanu of Kuru. Throughout the epic, Vyasa appears occasionally helping the Kuru kingdom. His spiritual career includes compiling many texts and spreading the knowledge through his disciples. The festival of Guru Purnima is dedicated to him. It is also known as Vyasa Purnima, the day believed to be both of his birth and when he divided the Vedas.

In this canto, we hear the fascinating tale of Gajendra, king of elephants in the celestial realm, who was a saintly king in his previous life. Assailed by a mighty crocodile, he recalls his former devotion to Krishna and invokes his presence with heartfelt prayers.

The Bhagavad Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer Krishna. At the start of the Dharma Yudha (righteous war) between Pandavas and Kauravas, Arjuna is filled with great moral dilemma and despair about the violence and death the war will cause in the battle against his own kin. He wonders if he should renounce and seeks Krishna's counsel, whose answers and discourse constitute the Bhagavad Gita.

In 2001 during the young man's sixth trip to India, he travelled to Vrindavan, a holy town associated with Lord Krishna south of Delhi. It was there he met his spiritual guide, and mentor Srila Bhaktivedanta Naryana Goswami. Some twenty years on, Prana has been resident in his teacher's temples all over the world, particularly India, Australia, America, and Europe.
