Antisemitism has reared its ugly head in our nation. Many say it’s no surprise; that antisemitism is an unchanging, intractable scourge. That Esau will always hate Jacob. And the only question is how close to the surface it lies. This wicked hatred that many say has lurked just beneath the surface of polite Australian society is no longer hidden. It has well and truly entered the public square bringing with it terror and fear to Jewish people everywhere. The sound of gunshots echoing from Bondi Beach on December 14, 2025, were heard by the congregation at Bondi Anglican Church, not far from where the violent attack on Jewish Chanukah celebrations occurred, resulting in the deaths of 15 people. The Sunday evening service at the Bondi church had not long finished. During their time together, they had prayed for the Jewish community. But as they went to leave, mayhem was breaking out with a crowd of people surging around the church building.
