Fall asleep inside history. Tonight you are far from every shore, a thousand years back, a young crew member on a double hulled Polynesian voyaging canoe making a calm night passage between islands. Beside you sits the navigator, an old man who carries the whole ocean in his head. There is no compass aboard, no chart, no metal, and no writing, and none is needed. You will learn how the horizon is a ring of doors where the stars rise and set, how one star hands the course to the next all night long, how the navigator reads the long ocean swell through the hull with his body, and how an island reaches out to meet a canoe with clouds and birds a full day before it can be seen. The evening meal is cooked on a hearth of sand as the sun goes down, the wake glows with the sea's own light, and everyone sleeps because one man who has never been lost is awake beside the sail.

You will hear water running gently along two hulls, two voices of water braided together, the soft working creak of the lashings as the platform breathes with the swell, a steady warm trade wind, and the woven sail filling and settling overhead.

This is an extended sleep story of three and a half hours. The narration ends softly around the three hour mark, and then the ocean carries on until the end. Black screen friendly.
