Modern accounts describe reddish or dark hair, long arms, large footprints, unusual calls, and brief appearances near roads, ravines, forest edges, and mountain trails. One important modern report came in nineteen seventy-six, when published retellings described local forestry officials or workers seeing a reddish-brown upright creature near a road, though versions differ on witness count and details. That report helped trigger organized searches during China’s period of intense Yeren interest.
