Named after its common proximity to the surface of the water, people assumed they were sunning themselves, while they were probably just eating. When eating, the basking shark’s mouth is so large that it looks continually surprised. Maybe it's surprising that it doesn't eat something bigger than plankton. Basking sharks are a cosmopolitan species, meaning they can be found all over the world and adapt for various climates. They also love a good drink umbrella.
