In the debut episode of Yasir Alyasiri's (Masmoo) Podcast, I, Yasir Alyasiri, share the compelling story of how I ventured into the world of podcasting and the reasons behind it. I recount the harrowing experience of seeking refuge in the UAE, under the care of my older brother.

With no prior connection to filmmaking, my journey took an unexpected turn in Dubai. I had to leave my civil engineering studies and was unwillingly pushed into sound engineering. This twist of fate introduced me to video editing, a skill that would set the foundation for my future career. Through sheer coincidence, I became a well-known editor, and another unexpected opportunity led me to my first directing gig—a bet with a singer friend that ended in the project's cancellation.

Despite the setback, I persevered and soon landed my first official directing job for a music video in late 2002. Join me as I reflect on the challenges, coincidences, and pivotal moments that shaped my path from Iraq to becoming a filmmaker.
