X Minus One presents “Stars Are the Styx,” episode 61, originally broadcast on NBC on July 24, 1956. Adapted by Ernest Kinoy from Theodore Sturgeon’s 1950 Galaxy Science Fiction story, the drama was directed by Bob Mauer and produced by William Welch.

At Curbstone, an Earth-orbiting way station for travelers seeking one-way passage to the stars, a release officer and his assistant Tween evaluate prospective colonists. As new candidates arrive—including the officer’s old friend Judson—the demanding selection process and the promise and danger of interstellar departure bring deeply human hopes into focus.
