This week's show is called "With a Little Help from My Friends – Dr. Thomas Alberico." Tune in and hear Steve continue the countdown to his 500th show with guest Dr. Thomas Alberico. Steve is incredibly honored to have Dr. Alberico, the doctor who has guided him through his 25-year journey with Multiple Myeloma blood cancer, offer a message of Love, Hope, and Encouragement on the topic “the Cure is Coming”. With over 40 years with Virginia Oncology Associates advancing cancer care, Dr. Alberico is far more than just a dedicated, devoted doctor. To Steve and thousands of other patients who have been blessed by this compassionate, caring, exceptional doctor, he is a Saint.
Steve Copeland speaks with his longtime oncologist, Dr. Thomas Alberico, about 25 years of treatment for multiple myeloma and the progress made in cancer care. Alberico explains how he came to specialize in hematology and oncology, and he describes how newer targeted therapies and immunotherapies have changed the outlook for multiple myeloma compared with older treatments.
They also discuss practical steps to support health during treatment, including getting enough sleep, exercising, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol and excessive food. Alberico explains the difference between chemotherapy and immunotherapy and says that cancer vaccines are being studied as part of broader treatment strategies rather than as stand-alone cures.
