Why can one unanswered message, slightly different tone of voice or passing comment send your brain into absolute meltdown?

Welcome to Episode 2 of Anyway, Back to the Point - and this time we’re talking about rejection sensitive (or sensitivity) dysphoria, or RSD.

Or, more accurately, why the tiniest hint of rejection can sometimes feel like an emotional freight train.

In Part 1, Lara and Emma talk about RSD through the lens of their own experiences and their ongoing exploration of ADHD/AuDHD - from overthinking interactions and reading far too much into things to the internal spiral that can happen when you think someone is disappointed, annoyed or simply doesn’t like you.

We talk about the stories our brains create, the desperate urge to fix things, people-pleasing, taking things personally and those moments when your rational brain knows everything is probably fine…while the rest of you absolutely does not.

As ever, we’re not doctors and we’re not diagnosing anybody. We’re sharing lived experience, things we’ve recognised in ourselves and the conversations that happen when you suddenly start looking at your life through a different lens.

If you’ve ever gone from “they haven’t replied yet” to “excellent, they clearly hate me” in approximately 90 seconds…you may feel extremely at home here.

Part 2 continues the conversation and moves into more difficult territory, including relationships and abuse.
