Today we come to one of the dramatic, breathtaking moments, a moment that speaks directly to our spiritual lives today.

As in everyday life, our spiritual life also has ups and downs. There are valleys, seasons of struggle, dryness, confusion, and waiting, and there are mountaintops, moments when God feels near, when prayer feels alive, when worship feels powerful, when obedience feels joyful.

But here’s the danger: When we are on top spiritually, we often forget a very important spiritual principle, and in 2 Chronicles 7, God Himself spells out that principle.

This chapter opens with one of the greatest mountaintop experiences in all of Scripture. Solomon has just finished praying. The people are gathered. The Temple stands complete. And then, suddenly, the glory of God descends.

But it is after this mountaintop moment, not before it, that God speaks, and what He says is not about fire, or cloud, or glory.

It is about the principle that can sustain a believer when the mountaintop fades a little. It is about how to seek God when life is ordinary, how to return to God when life goes wrong, and how to walk with God when the fire is gone and the cloud has lifted.

In other words: God uses a mountaintop moment to teach a valley principle, and that principle is one of the most important in all of Scripture. A principle that has shaped revivals, restored families, restored nations, healed hearts, and renewed believers for centuries.

Let’s turn now to 2 Chronicles 7, and let’s see if we can discern what that principle is….
