What does it mean tobe “righteous?”
I have asked many people this question, and I always get adistorted view. The modern concept of “righteousness,” everyone views this as a“holier than thou” standard that is unachievable.
I asked one person what “their view” of righteousness was,and their response was “Jesus, nobody could ever attain to that level.”
How poorly have we been taught, that nobody could everattain to righteousness. Let me show you the “Biblical definition ofrighteousness.”
Honest: to be upright in manners, and morals, to be truthful
Righteous: to be lawful, just, to be clean, right.
Do you know how many people were recorded in the Bible as“righteous?” Seth, Enoch, Noah, Shem, Abraham, Moses, Elijah, David, eventhough David sinned, Yahweh still called him righteous.
In order to understand what “true righteousness” is, youmust also understand what “unrighteousness” is.
Unrighteous: violent, wrong, unjust, one who is false, or aliar, dishonest, unlawful.
Dishonest: deceiving, lying, withholding truth, immoral, unjust.
So we see here that an “unrighteous person” is one who isdishonest, and unlawful, or immoral.
Who can tell me what the 10 Commandments are? They are a“Moral Code of Conduct.”
What does the word “perfect” mean to you? Is itunattainable?
Perfect: (H) tamym; to be morally whole, or complete, to beof utmost integrity and sincerity, to live in truth. (G) teleioo; to becomplete, from teleios, to be fully complete, fully grown or developed, both inmoral character and in mind.
Genesis 6:8-10
Genesis 17:1
Deut 18:9-14
Psalm 19:7-14
Mt 5:43-48
If Yahoshoa is saying “be perfect, even as Yahweh isperfect,” then clearly He’s saying “its not impossible.”
Luke 6:40
Again, He wouldn’t be saying this if it was animpossibility.
James 1:2-12
You have to have patience. I can remember when I was young,I couldn’t wait to grow up, get a car, and go wherever I wanted. Then, Icouldn’t wait until I was old enough to buy my first beer. Then, I couldn’twait until I had a wife to settle down with, etc., it just kept going, andgoing, and what was I not doing? Being “Patient!”
You cannot be “complete, righteous, etc.,” if you are in ahurry. Its impossible. Being “just, perfect, righteous,” is about “patience.”You have to let Yahweh “work on you, build you” into the person He wants you tobe. Not who YOU want to be. And THIS is why everyone has a distorted view ofwhat “righteousness” is.
James 2:14-26
What are the works that James is talking about? The “MoralCode of Conduct,” also known as “The Law.”
Faith without works is dead. What is faith?
It’s the Moral conviction that Yahweh is true, and I am fully persuaded that asI keep His Law, He is perfecting my inward man, and making me righteous andholy.
And I don’t care what the unrighteous think of me, or aboutme, or if they want to call me crazy, or call me a liar, or whatever, I standon Yahweh’s Word that what He says is True. And THAT is Faith with works.
