It’s the way our cities have been designed. From long commutes and car dependence to apartment buildings that prioritise privacy over connection, modern Australian life is making it easier than ever to move through entire days without meaningful human interaction.

As rates of loneliness soar, particularly among young Australians, Lucinda says we need to stop treating loneliness as a personal failing and start recognising it as a housing and city design issue.
