A common question is when leadership really begins. Most people think it starts when responsibility is given. I explain why it actually starts much earlier, in how you act when there is no requirement to lead.

Leadership behaviour shows up in everyday situations. How you approach your work. How you interact with others. How you respond when things are not going to plan. These moments define how people experience you.

I also explain why people follow behaviour, not words. What you say matters far less than what you consistently demonstrate. People watch patterns. They notice what you repeat. And over time, they respond to that.

This is where role modelling becomes important. The way you operate sets expectations for others. When you demonstrate reliability, accountability, and clarity, those behaviours begin to spread. This is how standards are formed and culture develops.

Another key idea in this episode is simple but powerful. What you walk past is what you accept. What you ignore sends a signal. And that signal shapes what others believe is acceptable.
