Are all the accounts really being disclosed? What if something is being hidden?
When you're divorcing, few things feel more unsettling than wondering whether you're seeing the full financial picture.
In this episode of Divorce Discussions, Angie sits down with Becky Sampson, founder and CEO of Only Subpoenas, to pull back the curtain on one of the most misunderstood tools in the legal system.
Becky is not an attorney, and she's the first to say so. She's something arguably more relatable: someone who lived it. After 21 hearings, 21 subpoenas, and three and a half years in the Hawaii family court system, representing herself for most of it, she walked away with a fair and equitable outcome and a soft heart still intact. These days she's affectionately known as Becky Brockovich, and she helps people get the information they need to advocate for themselves.
In this conversation, you'll learn what a subpoena actually is (and why it's far less scary than crime shows make it look), when it makes sense to use one, why doing discovery first shows the court good faith, how to keep your heart soft even in a high-conflict divorce, and why advocating for what's fair could be the very thing that keeps you off the wrong side of a sobering statistic: 44% of women leave divorce in financial poverty.
Please note, Becky is not an attorney and nothing in this episode is legal advice.
This is Episode 6 of the Divorce Discussions Podcast by the Divorce Support Collective, where we seek to reimagine the process of divorce through collaboration and support. New episodes drop every Wednesday.
