Weird Tales is a foundational American pulp magazine established in 1922 that specialized in fantasy, horror, and weird fiction. The publication is historically significant for launching the careers of iconic authors such as H. P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, and Ray Bradbury, while popularized influential literary creations like the Cthulhu Mythos and Conan the Barbarian. Throughout its primary run, which lasted until 1954, it underwent several leadership changes, most notably under editor Farnsworth Wright, who steered the magazine through its most prestigious era. Visually, the magazine was defined by the distinctive and often provocative artwork of Margaret Brundage and the intricate illustrations of Virgil Finlay. Despite facing chronic financial instability and eventual dissolution, the brand has seen numerous revival attempts by various publishers from the 1970s through the present day. Today,
it remains a celebrated legend in genre fiction, regarded by historians as one of the most influential titles in the development of modern speculative literature.
