  • Episode 36 | Frankie and the Witch Fingers & Sakatumba (w/Bella Savignano & Lucia Betelu)
    2023/08/28

Jack is back for a SOLO SHOWLO--this time with Weird Fishes' first CROSSOVER EPISODE!

Bella Savignano and Lucia Betelu, cofounders of The New School's college radio station WNSM, join the show to break down their station and the incredible ground they've laid in less than a year in operation: from starting a fully-functioning music station to getting plugged in the New York Times!

Then, Bella talks Frankie & the Witch Fingers, a truly PSYCHEDELIC band allegedly fronted by a cat(?) and their 2019 album ZAM. A genre-bending odyssey, ZAM is made by a band just making the music they want on a huge level.

Lucia discusses a band close to home--Sakatumba, who she went to high school with in Buenos Aires, Argentina! The band's status as one of the innovators of Argentina's "El Under" rock scene is most apparent in their beautiful debut album, "Puro Teatro", released this year.

  • Episode 31 | The Beatles and Dream Theater (w/Josh Siegel and Jake Krieger)
    2023/04/17

Jack and MC welcome two rare music-talkers to the show, that is--two of the top sports hosts at WNYU!

Josh Siegel is WNYU's Associate Sports Director and often host of The Cheap Seats and Hoops and Scoops. The brains of the sports department, Josh often recounts games and teams with frightening detail; today though, he's on Weird Fishes to recount his favorite album ever, "Abbey Road" (??) by a little-known group "The Beatles" (???)...

Jake Krieger often cohosts The Cheap Seats and Waiver Wired, as well as Jack's wrestling show The Fake One; today he gets PROGGY with the Dream Theater breakout album "Images and Words". Their 1992 record has the band's biggest hits, but why does it hit Jake in the sweetest of spots? Who knows??

Plus, Mean Jack rears his ugly head, and Passive-Aggressive MC remains a looming presence.

    2023/03/27

Spencer Rose returns alongside his roommate and cohost Ethan O'Donovan to discuss some of the strangest rappers on the scene today.

Ethan (one of the hosts of The Fake One with Jack and Spencer, and former host of Not Funny Didn't Laugh) discusses the enigmatic Yeat and his 2021 record, "Up 2 Më". Twizzy indeed.

Spencer talks Drain Gang's Ecco2k and the only album released under that name, 2019's "E".

  • Weird Fishes Episode 28 | Blood Orange, Parannoul, & Kate NV (w/Larry Gu)
    2023/03/06

WNYU's Publicity Director Larry Gu joins the show for an episode covering three different styles of what might be called pop--from maximal to minimal. Larry discusses producer/performer/very well-connected collaborator Blood Orange, the alias of the surprisingly British Devonte Hynes and his 2019 album "Angel's Pulse"

Jack talks the recent breakout album from the mysterious Korean shoegazer Parannoul, whose cinematic "After The Magic" has seemed to put his anonymous persona on the map.

MC talks Kate NV, whose aggressively sampled mish-mash of songs "WOW", which earned Stereogum's album of the week and inadvertently taught Jack how to live-mix.

Weird Fishes is LIVE Saturdays at 4pm on WNYU.ORG!

  • Weird Fishes Episode 27 | Pinc Louds, U.S. Girls, & Philip Selway (w/Virgile-Minh Perrier)
    2023/02/28

Host of Le Salon Des Sons on WNYU, Virgile-Minh Perrier, joins the show to discuss Pinc Louds, the enigmatic NYC band who brought their unexpected style to Tompkins Square Park in the middle of the COVID pandemic and salvaged both the sanity of a shuttered city and the band's own career. Their 2018 album "Delancey St Station" is tied brilliantly to the New York origins and makes up most of what they played at the dozens of shows Virgile-Minh attended in 2020.

Plus, Jack and MC profile two more new releases from this week; MC's pick is U.S. Girls' "Bless This Mess", and Jack's is the new solo album from Radiohead's Philip Selway, "Strange Dance"!

Tune in to Weird Fishes every Saturday at 4pm on WNYU.ORG!
