In this episode of We Interrupt This Movie, we dive headfirst into Knives Out, the first installment in Rian Johnson’s wildly entertaining whodunit series. From its razor-sharp ensemble cast to the deliciously twisty plotting, we unpack why this modern murder mystery feels both classic and completely fresh. We also talk about Daniel Craig’s boldly theatrical Southern accent, an accent so committed it deserves its own billing in the end credits. Strap in, interrogate the suspects, and mind the donuts within the donut within the donut hole.

Hosted by Tage Sickler, Derek Wehrman, and Steve Teasdale.

  • Arrival (2016) - Take 2

This week on We Interrupt This Movie, we’re revisiting Arrival (2016) — and yes, this is Take Two. Back in the early days of the podcast, we covered the film but later realized we didn’t quite do it justice. Considering it’s one of our favorite movies of all time, that never sat right with us, so we decided it was time to return to Denis Villeneuve’s beautiful, brain-melting sci-fi masterpiece with fresh eyes and a deeper conversation. We dig into what makes Arrival so powerful—from its approach to language and time, to Jóhann Jóhannsson’s haunting score (bookended by Max Richter’s beautiful piece, On the Nature of Daylight) to Amy Adams’ incredible performance—and why this film has only grown in stature for us over the years. Sometimes a movie deserves a second pass. This one absolutely did.

It’s that magical time of year again — awards season! In this episode of We Interrupt This Movie, we dive headfirst into the 2026 race, breaking down the Golden Globe winners, reacting to the Oscar nominations, and debating which films deserve the big prizes versus which ones we think will actually take them home. Along the way we share our personal favorites, a few surprise snubs, and the performances and movies we can’t stop thinking about — plus the usual passionate disagreements and wildly confident predictions that will absolutely age poorly.

  • Tenet (2020)

The lads return after a holiday break for a deep dive into Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wildly confusing yet undeniably thrilling time-bending spy epic, packed with inverted bullets, temporal pincer movements, jaw-dropping set pieces, and a propulsive Ludwig Göransson score that never lets up; we try to untangle what it all means while also admitting that even when Tenet makes us feel both smarter and dumber at the same time, it’s still one of the most exhilarating blockbuster puzzles ever put on screen. Don’t try to understand it… feel it.

Hosted by Tage Sickler and Steve Teasdale

Strap in, Christmas clowns — the lads are lighting up the neighborhood and diving into National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, the holiday classic that proves no one commits harder to Christmas than Clark Griswold. Chevy Chase is in peak form as America’s most determined dad, Randy Quaid’s Cousin Eddie shows up exactly when you don’t want him to, and we break down why this movie remains an annual tradition despite (or because of) its total chaos. Derek’s got the day off, but past guest Ian joins us to help survive the season, talk holiday expectations, exploding turkeys, and the true meaning of family — just remember, if things start going wrong, it’s all part of the Griswold experience.

Strap in, space cowboys. The lads are blasting off this week with Christopher Nolan’s epic sci-fi emotional detonator Interstellar. It’s a film where time bends, love transcends dimensions, and Matthew McConaughey gives one of the best performances of his career — equal parts astronaut, dad, philosopher, and #1 single-tear reactor. From that iconic bookshelf reveal to Hans Zimmer’s cathedral-organ score rattling every molecule of your being, we’re exploring why this film hits the head and the heart with gravity-well force. There’s so much to love about this movie. Buckle up — we’re going fifth-dimensional.

  • The Aviator (2004)
    2025/11/22

This week, the lads take to the skies with Martin Scorsese’s glossy, obsessive, beautifully unhinged epic The Aviator. We dive into Leonardo DiCaprio’s electric turn as Howard Hughes — aviation pioneer, Hollywood mogul, germaphobe extraordinaire — and explore everything from the Spruce Goose to milk bottles without losing cabin pressure.

It’s big, it’s bold, it’s a little OCD-coded, and it might cause you to shout “Show me all the blueprints!” at wildly inappropriate times. Buckle up — we’re going flying. The way of the future, the way of the future, the way of… you get it.

This week, the lads check in to the Overlook Hotel for a long-overdue stay with The Shining — Stanley Kubrick’s chilling masterpiece of isolation, madness, and malfunctioning typewriters. It may be a little late for Halloween, but there’s never a bad time to talk about axe-wielding writers, eerie twins, and the unmistakable dread that only Kubrick can conjure. From the meticulous set design to Jack Nicholson’s legendary descent into insanity, we dive deep into what makes The Shining one of the most haunting films ever made.

So grab your tricycle, avoid Room 237, and join us as we try not to lose our minds — all work and no play makes the lads something something. . .
