Pornography promotes a false and harmful narrative about what the human body is and what it is used for. Pornography’s narrative is in direct contradiction to the gospel narrative. The gospel says, “God loves the body because He made it; therefore, glorify God in it.” Pornography says, “The human body is a toy and was made for pleasure.” Pornography objectifies the human body. It’s dehumanizing.

If we do talk about sex in the church, we often zero in on how destructive it can be. We talk about all the “don’ts.” We use scare tactics to steer our teens away from the very idea of sex. We sometimes act like sex is a tool of the devil rather than a gift from God. Here’s the message in a nutshell: “Sex is the most scandalous, sinful, shameful thing in the world… so be sure to save it for someone you love.”

God’s children, must embody the message that Jesus can be trusted with every facet of your life, including your sexuality. We surrender all to Him, including our sexuality because He can be trusted.

Jesus never intended for Christians not to judge. Rather, He intended for us to judge rightly. He expects us to judge with righteous judgment. There is a standard of judgment, but it’s not our own.

Sexuality is a constitutive part of human nature and human experience shaped by God’s will for His creation. It is not, however, the singular defining aspect of human identity. Our culture presents sexuality as the biggest deal. It defines you. It says everything about you. But God says otherwise. Sexuality is a part of our divine design, but our identity is all wrapped up, all tied up, all tangled up in Jesus. Jesus’ fingerprints are all over us. We are molded and shaped by Him. That’s what it means to be a disciple.

How do you replace the pity-party with a purposeful pursuit? That’s where Psalm 139 comes in. David teaches us how to pray when you feel like a nobody going nowhere.

As humans we are multi-functional beings. We do different things and fill different roles. We are mothers or fathers. We are associates or bosses in the workplace. We are volunteers in the community. We may be fishermen or hunters. But when God created man, He had one purpose in mind—to glorify Him in all that we do.
