One of the amazing blessings granted to our congregation is our young adult group. These incredible men and women, singles and families are making a huge difference on our numerical and spiritual growth. They are led by their passion, energy, and love for our Lord and our members. They have a great balance of internal and external focus as they walk with our Master.

In this episode we are visiting with Matthew and Ashley Church. It is a joy to get to know our family members here at the Prattville congregation. Not everyone is a high profile member and out in front but they are valuable to our family and we love them dearly. The truth is that many in our congregation are solid and faithful members that we might see but don’t know as well. This wonderful family is a vital part of the fabric of our church family. They are active and contributing in many ways, often behind the scenes. Most of all, they are teaching by example as they serve and bring their children to grow and walk with the Master.

All of us have experienced disappointment for not being selected for something. Or, we might have seen another selected that we were equally qualified with. As we continue in our series on what it means to be a disciple we will look at someone who we would describe as an influencer. She was a believer in God and a shrewed and succesful businesswoman. But more than that, she transformed into someone who influenced others as she became a champion disciple for our Lord.

In previous episodes about discipleship we looked at what a disciple is and the committment necessary to be a follower of Jesus. Now we will look at several different disciples from the early church to see how they are a model for us to follow.

In this episode we will look at Barnabas. Many of us know Barnabas as the Son of Encouragement. After all, that's what his name means. We'll learn in this episode that he was indeed an encourager in many different ways. We'll learn why I refer to him as radical generosity. We'll see how he continually gave all to our Lord and to the early church.

I am taking a temporary departure from the series on discipleship. But, perhaps not if we think about it. In this episode I am speaking with Jon Hayden Sanders, our children’s education director/superintendent. Jon Hayden and those that work with him are demonstrating all elements of discipleship as they walk with our Master.

The children’s Bible education program at the Prattville church has undergone a tremendous upgrade in the learning environment but that is only part of the story. Our program under the leadership of Jon Hayden and the quality teachers continues to offer biblically sound curriculum. I love the passion that comes through what Jon Hayden says and does. But Jon Hayden rightly points out that the teachers in our program. These wonderful servants love our children, our Lord, and what they do.

All too often we want things on our terms. We want our way and our will. This is not the way of a disciple of Jesus. Rather, we use the same words our Lord used as He was preparing for His death. He stated to God, regarding what was to happen, “Not my will, but thine”. That is the subject of this episode of our series on discipleship. A faithful disciple of our Lord Jesus is to state, not my will but thy will.
