Every August we hear the same thing: preseason doesn’t matter. I disagree.

From what Cam Ward and the Titans showed on the field to Cleveland using preseason as part of its quarterback evaluation and more than a thousand roster spots disappearing after the final games, there’s plenty happening in August that carries real weight.

Preseason may not predict the NFL season, but it gives us information. Now we get to see what September does with it.

Cleveland has spent years waiting for the Deshaun Watson trade to become what they hoped it would be. At some point, the question has to shift from what Watson used to be to what the Browns actually have now.
