Today we remember Venerable Joseph of Optina, a monk who lived a life marked by humility, obedience, and deep spiritual wisdom. Born John Litovkin in 1837, he faced many hardships early in life but found strength in prayer and the guidance of the Elders at Optina. Joseph served as a devoted cell-attendant to Elder Ambrose and later became a spiritual father himself. His life was a testament to the power of obedience and prayer, and he continued to guide many until his repose in 1911.
