Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Mahabharat is the story of their efforts. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich. This series “Mahabharat Ka Mahaparv” is most humbly submitted with the best of regards and wishes to those who value knowledge.


Valmikiy Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. The series Valmiki Ramayan Ke Ram of conversations between Yogita Pant (Questioner) and Anil Chawla is intended to help the viewers understand the personality of Ram. After understanding one can adopt Ram's ideals in one's own life and enrich one's life.

After departing from Manipur, Arjun moved to the western coast of India. He came to Prabhas which was close to Dwarka, the city where Vaasudev Krishn was living. Krishn learnt about Arjun’s presence at Prabhas and came to see his old friend. Krishn took Arjun to Dwarka. While at Dwarka, the two went to a fair where Arjun saw Subhadra, Krishn’s sister, and fell in love with her at first sight. Krishn noticed Arjun’s love for his sister. Krishn advised Arjun to kidnap Subhadra. Arjun sought his elder brother Yuddhishthir’s permission and on receiving the go-ahead, kidnapped Subhadra with help from Krishn. Balram and others at Dwarka were very angry. They were ready to attack Arjun and have a war. Krishn, however, advised them against such a course. They accepted Krishn’s advice. They welcomed Arjun and Subhadra to Dwarka and got them married. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Arjunvanvaas Parv/Chapters 217-220). Arjun saw Chitraangada, beautiful daughter of King Chitravaahak of Manipur. Arjun fell in love with her and wanted to marry her. King Chitravaahak permitted them subject to the condition that their first son will belong to the King, shall stay with him and shall be his heir. Arjun accepted the condition. Arjun lived in Manipur for three years and moved towards south after the birth of his son. While moving south, he reached a place which was infested with dangerous crocodiles who were actually apsaras and had lost their beauty due to a curse. Arjun boldly entered the dangerous waters and pulled the crocodiles out of water. On being pulled out, the crocodiles became apsaras again. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Arjunvanvaas Parv/Chapters 214-216). Some looters looted cows of a Brahmin. The Brahmin came to the palace of Paandavs and cried for help. All the weapons of Paandavs were kept at a place where Yuddhishthir was spending time alone with Draupadee. Violating their privacy was punishable. However, Arjun decided to walk in to pick up his bow and arrows. Arjun was able to overpower the looters and get the Brahmin’s cows back. As per the agreed rule, Arjun decided to depart from Indraprasth and go to forest for twelve years. His first stop was Gangadwar or Haridwar. At Haridwar while bathing in Gangaa, he was kidnapped by Uloopee, daughter of Naag king. The two married for a night and parted thereafter. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Arjunvanvaas Parv/Chapters 212-213).
