Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Mahabharat is the story of their efforts. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich. This series “Mahabharat Ka Mahaparv” is most humbly submitted with the best of regards and wishes to those who value knowledge.


Valmikiy Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. The series Valmiki Ramayan Ke Ram of conversations between Yogita Pant (Questioner) and Anil Chawla is intended to help the viewers understand the personality of Ram. After understanding one can adopt Ram's ideals in one's own life and enrich one's life.

When Maharshi Ved Vyas was departing, Yuddhishthir asked Maharshi whether all disturbances had ended with the killing of Shishupaal. Maharshi smiled and said that troubles have just started and would continue for thirteen years. At the end of it, there would be massive destruction of Kshatriyas. The destruction will be centred on Yuddhishthir, will be caused by the crime of Duryodhan and will end by the bravery of Bheem and Arjun. This disturbed Yuddhishthir enormously and he thought of committing suicide but was stopped from taking the extreme step. Duryodhan went around seeing the great conference hall built for Raajsooy Yagy. Where there was no water, he thought that the place had water. And where there was a pond, he stepped as if it was just an illusion. He was ridiculed and laughed at by Paandav brothers excluding Yuddhishthir. On the way back to Hastinaapur, Duryodhan was burning with jealously and insult. He wanted to die if he could not get hold of the riches of Paandavs. Shakuni, his maternal uncle, suggested that Duryodhan could snatch all the wealth of Paandavs by defeating them in a game of dice. Shishupaal challenged Krishn to a fight. Krishn addressed all the kings present there and narrated all the crimes that Shishupaal had committed. Shishupaal ridiculed and made fun of all that Krishn said. Krishn used his Sudarshan chakr and killed Shisupaal in a very quick way. After Shishupaal’s death, Shishupaal’s son was crowned as the king of Chedi. After that Raajsooy yagy was duly completed as per original plan without any further disturbance. When Shishupaal was insulting Bheeshm etc, Bheem got infuriated and wanted to attack Shishupaal. Bheeshm stopped Bheem and narrated the story of birth of Shishupaal. The story described how Krishn granted a boon to Shishupaal’s mother and promised that he would forgive hundred wrongs done by Shishupaal. Bheeshm said that Shishupaal was inviting his own death by his mindless words. Bheesm challenged all present to a fight. (Mahabharat/Sabhaaparv/ Shishupaalvadh Parv/Chapters 40-44).
