Akiel Gallina is a Creative and Cultural Producer working between Berlin and Frankfurt — freelancing for Art Basel (creative direction and production on Meet the Artists, Meet the Collector, and Inner Worlds, in collaboration with Nowness), Highsnobiety, and Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt. He also co-founded Soft Launch, a creative studio for arts and culture, as well as Loose Ends, a nomadic curatorial exhibition project.

In this episode we talk about quitting a secure job the night before he was supposed to start, crying before his first shoot at Highsnobiety, and figuring production out by winging it. We get into the difference between being a creative producer and a cultural producer, how Art Basel happened, and what it's like bringing fashion-world visual language into the art world. We also talk about the Justice concert documentary that almost didn't happen, Soft Launch, and why Toronto never quite felt like home the way Berlin does.

Yared Abraham spricht mit Rouven Groetzki über Handwerk, Selbstständigkeit, und den Preis den man zahlt wenn man sich ganz auf eine Sache einlässt.

Rouven macht Schmuck, seit er fünf ist. Damals saß er in der Werkstatt seines Opas im Keller, einer Koryphäe der Pforzheimer Goldschmiedeszene. Eine andere Option hat es für ihn nie gegeben.

Mit 17 fing er die Ausbildung an, mit knapp 20 war er selbstständig. Seitdem hat er sich alles allein aufgebaut, mit einem langen, geduldigen Weg in die Musikszene, der damit anfing, dass er früher selber Sänger in einer Band war. Über die Jahre hat er Grillz für Nina Chuba und KIZ gemacht, die Testo-E Spritze für SSIO, Schmuck für Andreas Burani, Kraftklub, Green Berlin und ein Goldmünzen-Konzept mit Xatar entwickelt und umgesetzt.

In dieser Folge geht es um all das. Und um den Teil, über den sonst keiner redet: drei Partnerschaften die schiefgingen, zehn Jahre ohne Urlaub, Hyperfokus bis zum Umfallen, und was es wirklich kostet wenn ein großes Projekt nicht so läuft wie geplant. Am Ende auch darum, was passiert wenn man endlich kapiert, was die eigene Arbeit wert ist. Eine wirklich spannende Story.
