Marcus Friman of Land of Trees (Swedish Indie/Folk artist!) joins the show for a conversation about his life and work. He and Ashton discuss Marcus' beginnings in music, his discography, how loss can change our lives, the full spectrum of emotions a career in music offers, humble beginnings, and allowing joy and gratitude to drive our creative endeavors.

Land of Trees, the alias of Swedish Singer/Songwriter Marcus Friman, is indie/folk
rooted in the landscape of mountains and pine trees in northern Sweden. Inspired by the wild nature, Marcus started writing poems with metaphors from the landscape around him and found music as a way to express it. Working out of emotions and impulse rather than studying music, Land of Trees started as simplistic, authentic and genuine as can be.

The name came from a friends interpretation of the landscape on a mountain adventure, the first album ”Wild Wind” is recorded pretty much live all the way through in 4 days and most songs are written in the heat of the moment so no essence is lost in the process. Since the first release in 2016 Friman has released 3 full length albums with a 4th coming soon. Fans have followed the progress of a tree growing from the ground, spreading its roots and stretching its branches to the sky. Much like the forest, this music grows slow, steady and wild.

Chloe Gallardo joins Ashton for a conversation about her debut album, "Defamator", stranger danger, PR and the music industry, her new project Herr God, and much more.

Chloe Gallardo is a San Francisco based songwriter, musician, and vocalist. Her debut album, "Defamator", was released in 2023 on Taxi Gauche Records and was met with positive reviews from a plethora of publications including Paste Magazine. Her new project, Herr God, finds Gallardo exploring genres like slow core and grunge while maintaining the captivating songwriting demonstrated on "Defamator". Herr God's first single, "Jesus Candle in the Liquor Store" was released on June 7.

Greg Francis is a music producer and post-production sound engineer based in Oakland, California. He studied broadcasting & electronic communication arts with an emphasis in audio production at San Francisco State University. He currently works for IMRSV Sound and Berkeley Sound Artists where he does sound design, editing, and mixing for film and commercials.
