  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 27:56-66 - Jesus' Body Is Buried by Joseph of Arimathea In His Own New Tomb And Then Sealed by Roman Guards - Prog 115
    2026/01/09

Matthew 27:56-66 will be the focus of our study in this lesson from Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Let’s first join our teacher in Matthew 27:52-53 as he discusses this curious scripture. Matthew is the only gospel writer who mentions the resurrection of many saints. They came out of their tombs after the resurrection of Christ and went into Jerusalem.

It seems Matthew is proclaiming the truth of the resurrection of O.T. saints in the future, at Jesus’ second coming to enter into His kingdom to fulfill God’s promises to the Fathers. This is a hope of all Israel.

Dr. Mitchell clarifies what kind of resurrection Matthew writes about. He also describes the respect and actions of Joseph of Arimathea for the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Gospel of Mattew - Matthew 27:51-56 - Jesus Cried Out With A Loud Voice and the Veil in the Temple Was Torn From Top to Bottom - Access to God is Now Open To All - Prog 114
    2026/01/08

When our Savior Jesus Christ died, several things happened at once, simultaneously.

In Matthew 27:51-56, Matthew describes that Jesus cried out with a loud voice and yielded up His spirit. Then the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. It was at least 4” thick.

The earth shook from an earthquake and rocks were split, tombs were opened and many bodies of some dead saints were raised and the centurion said “This truly was the Son of God”.

There is a 3-fold testimony from God the Father concerning the work His Son on the cross.

1st - The veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom to give anyone and everyone access to God

2nd - Jesus was raised from the dead

3rd - He sent the Holy Spirit

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 27:39-50 - Jesus on the Cross is Ridiculed by the Religious Leaders, the Passers By and the Two Thieves - Prog 113
    2026/01/07

In Matthew 27 beginning at verse 39, we see Jesus on the cross being ridiculed by the passersby who mockingly told Him to come down from the cross.

Dr. Mitchell begins by giving us 3 good reasons why Jesus wouldn’t come down from the cross.

1st.The scriptures must be fulfilled that Jesus’ crucifixion must happen this way. Even the roman soldiers who knew nothing of scripture fulfilled scripture.

2ndly. His mission must be fulfilled which was to seek and to save sinners to the Glory of God His Father whom He served.

3rdly. Because Jesus loved you and me. 1st John 4:10 says ‘In this is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.’

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 27:32-44 - Jesus is Crucified, "This Is Jesus The King of The Jews" - Prog 112
    2026/01/06

In all four New Testament Gospels, the crucification of Jesus Christ is recorded.

We are in the Gospel of Matthew, a disciple of the the Lord Jesus, who wrote this gospel some 25 years after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Here in Matthew 27, we are looking at verses 32-44.

Matthew records how Jesus was led to Calvary and crucified between two robbers. The people walking by were shaking their heads at the Lord and deriding Him. They mockingly told the Lord to come down from the cross and save Himself if He was indeed the Son of God.

Dr. Mitchell brings out the sinlessness of the Son of God. Our Lord was a willing, innocent substitute for your sin and mine. Trust Him to take yours away as I have.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 27:11-31 - Jesus Is Led Away to Pontius Pilate For Questioning - Prog 111
    2026/01/05

In Matthew 27:11-31, Jesus is seen standing before the Roman governor of Judea in Jerusalem, Pontius Pilot. He asks Jesus several questions.

Even though the Lord Jesus spoke truth to this man, even though Pilot found no fault in Jesus, he still let Jesus be crucified. And why did he do this?

The people wanted Jesus to be crucified.

The religious rulers were envious of Christ and they wanted to get rid of the Lord. So, they asked for a murder, Barabbas by name and rejected Jesus.

As Dr. Mitchell says, they preferred the murderer to the Savior.

What will you do with Jesus who is called the Christ?

Will you believe in Him right now?

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell as he teaches from Matthew 27:11-31 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 27:1-10 - Jesus Being Led Away, Judas Recognized His Betrayal of Innocent Blood - Prog 110
    2026/01/02

Our study in Matthew continues in chapter 27.

The lesson begins with a focus on Judas.

In verses 3 through 10, we are behind the scenes with Judas while Jesus stands before Pilate.

These verses show us where he went, who he spoke to, his recognition of Jesus’ innocence, his emotional response, but not his genuine repentance, and his death at his own hand.

Reasons for why Judas is not considered a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ are set forth in this lesson.

Dr. Mitchell then shares with us scriptures that were fulfilled in the price of betrayal, that is, the 30 pieces of silver which was paid for God, as written in Zechariah 11:12.

When Jesus died for us, didn’t He redeemed us, buy us, not with gold or silver, but with His own precious blood? Yes!

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell in Matthew 27:1 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 26:69-75 - Jesus is Denied by Peter - Peter's 6 Steps Downward - Prog 109
    2026/01/01

Matthew 26:69-75 shows us Peter’s denial of His Lord. Satan had demanded permission to sift Peter like wheat.

Remember that Jesus had prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail, Lk.22:31-32.

Peter may have failed, but his faith did not.

Dr. Mitchell gives us a short overview on the 6 Scriptural evidences of Peter’s downward trajectory before his denial.

He then also points out how the Lord Jesus still loved Peter and sought him out personally after His resurrection. 1Cor.15:4 records Christ first appeared to Cephas, to Peter.

The apostle Peter, in the book of Acts, is now one filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaimng Christ, crucified and raised again whom God exalted to His own right hand.

In this exaltation, God made this Jesus, both Lord and Christ.

Here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast is Dr. Mitchell, Matthew 26:69.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 26:56-68 - Jesus Stands before the Religous Court on Account of His Person - Prog 108
    2025/12/31

In Matthew 26 vs.56, Jesus states that all these things happened to Him to fulfill the Scriptures of the O.T. prophets.

We have read and heard the many times in this book of Matthew how Jesus fulfilled prophecy. Not only would Jesus fulfill scripture, but even Judas, unknowingly, also fulfilled Scripture as stated in Acts 1:16.

In the verses before us, our Lord was placed before the high priest & the religious leaders. These were looking for witnesses against the Lord. Matthew records that 2 false witness came forward to testify. They spoke wrongly about what Jesus actually said.

Read John 2:19 for Jesus’ actual words.

How important it is to know what the Word of God, as it is written, actually says.

Then, Jesus Himself testifies of His coming again in truth.

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Mat.26:56.
