  • Backrooms Vibes + Euphoria Series Finale (Backrooms, Vivarium, Without Name, I Am the Pretty Things That Lives in the House)
    2026/06/05

We’re exploring liminal spaces and unsettling feelings this week with the release of Backrooms. Before we dig into that, we talk about the series finale of Euphoria and we don’t really have a whole lot to say. We’ve documented our feelings on season 3 pretty well over these couple months, and we’re glad to see the end of this. It’s one of the most disappointing ends to a series we’ve ever seen and we don’t look forward to anything Sam Levinson does in the future. Let’s just pretend Euphoria was only two seasons long… Hannah caught up with a couple extra horror films this week and talked about Psycho Killer and Silence of the Lambs. We also discuss some upcoming films and the recent trailer for Primetime.

It’s been a big year for horror, A24, and new directors so far this year! Backrooms has had a huge opening weekend and we couldn’t wait to see if liminal spaces would freak us out. There were things about this film that didn’t really work for us, and we want to dive deeper into the internet lore, but it’s an impressive debut from Kane Parsons overall. We recommend a double feature with Obsession! We’d heard about Vivarium quite a bit and we heard online that it has a similar feeling to Backrooms. There were some unsettling and strange scenes in this one, but it probably isn’t something we will be revisiting much in the future. Without Name uses nature to create an unnerving atmosphere. Quiet forests are creepy anyway, so when you add psychedelic mushrooms, things can really go off the rails. Finally, we have I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Unfortunately, this was a miss from Osgood Perkins for us. It was just way too slow and the few creepy moments don’t do enough.

  • Documentary Week + Euphoria S3 Ep. 7 (The Crash, The Cove, Three Identical Strangers, 13th)
    2026/05/29

This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we’re discussing documentaries. Netflix’s The Crash has been getting a lot of hype since its release, so we knew we had to check it out and finally dedicate a week to documentaries. We also briefly, reluctantly, discuss Euphoria and wonder how on earth they’re going to wrap this ridiculous season up. Ailish was also able to watch Black Phone 2, so we talk about that more in depth. Overall, we felt the film was a bit rushed and we think the actual plot would have benefitted if they waited a couple more years to release a sequel. Ailish also watched The Ballad of Wallis Island and Hannah watched Primate.

The Crash is a documentary that resonated with us a bit since we live in Ohio and vaguely remember the news story. It’s safe to say Mackenzie Shirilla is exactly where she needs to be, but we didn’t really think Netflix did a great job with the production of this documentary. The Cove is nearly 20 years old and details the slaughtering and selling of dolphins in Japan. This one is definitely one sided, but it does bring up questions on culture vs culture. Some of the imagery really pulls your heartstrings too. Three Identical Strangers is one of the most bizarre documentaries we’ve ever seen. It’s heartbreaking, shocking, confusing, and a little lacking. We felt this one would have benefited from having multiple parts. Another one that was a lot to digest in 90ish minutes was 13th. We backed decades of history into a short amount of time and it was overwhelming. The topic is very important and thought-provoking, but we felt the production could have been done differently.

  • Obsession on Film + Euphoria S3 Ep. 6 (Obsession, Single White Female, The Truman Show, Misery)
    2026/05/22

This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we caught Curry Baker’s newest film, Obsession. It’s safe to say that we were obsessed with this film and spent a lot of time thinking about it! It was so fun to watch this with a reactive crowd and have nothing spoiled ahead of time. With this film as the inspiration, we decided to make the theme this week be other films that showcase some type of obsession. Before we dive into those, Hannah shared her thoughts on Black Phone 2 which Ailish plans to watch this coming week.

Misery is a film we had been wanting to watch for a while. This is classic Stephen King and we love how unhinged Kathy Bates is. In this one, the obsession comes from a deranged fan to a famous author, and things take quite a violent turn. The Truman Show doesn’t have the violence, but it certainly puts you in your feels. We were both a little surprised at how deep this film was and how heartbreaking it was to watch Truman realize something is off. We see how the crew/creators of The Truman Show and the public are obsessed with Truman’s life, but also see how fleeting their interest in a reality star is. Finally, we have Single White Female which also takes a very dramatic turn. Here, the obsession is between a woman and her seemingly innocent and naive roommate, but things take a sinister turn pretty quickly.

As for Euphoria, we don’t have much to say at this point. Is anyone enjoying this season? If you’re someone that is, please share your thoughts because we are struggling to find merit in it at all.
