The Trojans, coming off a 9-4 season in 2025, face a Spartans squad that struggled to a 3-9 finish for head coach Ken Niumatalolo. Quarterback Jayden Maiava should shine against SJSU's defense, with few returning starters off a squad that struggled to get stops last year. New defensive coordinator Gary Patterson will get his squad tested out of the gate, facing Hawaii transfer quarterback Luke Weaver and the Spartans "Spread and shred" offense.
